The album Dream It Was Crazy and its bonus cd-r shortly will be removed from distribution forever. As of this moment but 8 copies remain on the shelf at the IFPR store. When they are gone this particular recording will be locked in the vaults to never appear again. The August 12th performance of the set will become the album and will be printed on an order by order basis with slightly different artwork and a sticker label (unless requested otherwise) instead of silk screened cd. Don't hold us to this as Alan Evil has a silk screen set in the upper studio that is still in the box six months after it came in. He is occasionally seen hovering around the box, poking it, prodding it. Kind of creepy, really. If he does ever decide to make a silk screen for a cd we'll try to make sure it's for the Dream It Was Crazy cd first unless it's for a brand new album or he starts acting crazier than normal.

IFPR is busy ramping up for a re-introduction of several older albums including IFPR 2001, Archives 94/95, and one or two compilations of all the other stuff that's been created. You will be able to listen to these (probably as 112kbps mp3s) before buying them when our web master finally figures out how the hell to create a website that's not run by Homestead. Unfortunately he's been trying to teach himself to be a fire breather in the circus and keeps passing out and burning himself severely. The rest of us would just like to say it's not funny anymore and he should get the f*** to work before we start pouring salts on his burns...

Sorry about that. Now, where were we?

We're also about to add a limited edition t-shirt. The design process is ongoing but this will probably be partially air-brushed and partially silk-screened. Of course, the way Alan Evil acts around his air-brush (taking its case out of the box its in, opening it, then holding up the paper bag that has the one spring the airbrush is missing in it, pauses, waves the bag slightly noting the shape of the little spring in the worn, brown paper, fingers the air hose briefly, then quickly closes the case and puts it all back in the box. Then comes the hours of pacing around the studios, bobbing his head like a Hare Krishna but with a grimace of sadness and fear on his face and only a low moaning sound coming from deep in his body. It's really creepy and the rest of us leave when it happens and go out for beers) this t-shirt may remain a dream of ours for quite a while. Be sure that you will be informed before the rest of the world if these shirts are ever created. The run will be limited to ten, two of which I... I mean, we are going to keep so that means there will really be 8 copies for sale. They'll probably be ridiculously expensive but we promise they'll be really really nice. Hopfully we can find some sweet, pre-shrunk 100% cotton heavy weight shirts. Mmmmmmm, pre-shrunk.

So there you have it. Order your copy of Dream It Was Crazy with its bonus cd-r of mp3 sets while you still can and expect some re-releases and a t-shirt soon.

Slowly but surely the new IFPR album is taking shape. The songs on this new album are pushing the capabilities of IFPR Studios. Occasionally a work in progress from these sessions appears as the Music of the Moment. One song named "No Happy Ending" was originally written for the Prayerbox project but was "too American" for those snobby Brits. The Prayerbox music tracks were subsequently deleted and new tracks are being created completely by IFPR.

It would appear that some guitar sounds created by Alan Evil will be used by Prayerbox on their new album. This is exciting just because it is.

Nothing too interesting going on in the neighborhood of late. The crazy guy is still living in the van in the alley. He's taken to shielding his eyes from the dog as he walks by, cursing. Otherwise it's been very quiet.

1-3-2004

A rumor has been spread recently that Alan Evil has been recording some sounds for the new Prayerbox album. Alan Evil refuses to admit this until he knows if any such sounds are actually going to be used.

11-29-2003

Todd and Tucker has released "Personal Swell" which features loops of Alan Evil playing guitar. It's supernice.

Progress on the new IFPR album has slowed of late due to Alan Evil's new obsession with rock climbing and the upcoming final performance of The Approach of the Mystery in which Alan Evil dances.

It is rumored that Alan Evil is experiencing writer's block which he denies vehemently. "I'm hearing things all the time!" he mumbled loudly while waving one hand in the air and looking straight at the ground. He has commented that this album will combine the dirty, urban soundscapes of Dream It Was Crazy with some pop sentimentality. One song in the works is tentatively titled "Sex With Terrorists."

It would appear that the crazy man I saw stepping on the manhole covers has taken up residence in an old Dodge van with a smashed in windshield that is completely sealed into the lot behind the building two doors down. He goes in and out of the van every hour or two during the day to smoke pot. Also, it appears that the woman that lives in the corner house is whoring herself out to the traffic along the street. So far I've seen her jump in a van, jump in a car, jump in a pickup truck, get out of a pickup truck.... All the while she looks older and older and skinnier and skinnier. The young black man that is living with her (and several other people) helped to renovate that house. Now he walks into the projects and comes back with something in his hand. What an incredibly strange place to live.

10-29-2003

Dream It Was Crazy now comes with a cd-r of live performances and pictures. Same price, 7 times more sound.

Highdropod has released his "Black Rain" cd-single which has the IFPR Sands of Time remix as track 3. This song features a sample of the band Sweet Monkey recorded a long time ago in a city far far away.

Two interesting experiences lately. I've been working on the front of the studios here and have scaffolding set up. People don't seem to ever look up so I've observed some unusual things. One was a lady that came up to my fence and leaned against it for a long time, talking earnestly and quietly to my flowers. Another was an odd man that crossed the street to step with both feet on the manhole covers on my sidewalk (including the little gas valve covers) before crossing back to the other side of the street to step on the ones over there.

10-11-2003

AmbientLive 2k3 was pretty much a bust for IFPR. Alan Evil says he still had a wonderful time though the show did not go off. The marvelous outdoor setting couldn't stand up to the vicious line of thunderstorms that came rolling in right after soundcheck. So, alas, the only IFPR performance was

a listening of Dream It Was Crazy at the after house party.

To try to mitigate our dissapointment over the cancelled performance, IFPR will continue to work on and expand the Dream It Was Crazy set. Check back here for a schedule of live Netcasts and other live performances. The Netcasts will begin this week and will be followed and accompanied by a series of house parties here at the IFPR studios.

We still have quite a few copies of Dream It Was Crazy left to sell as a result of the cancelled show. The original plan was to sell out this pressing and then release the live set from Denver along with a few other versions of the set in an audio cd + mp3 cd-r two pack. As a result we will probably release a two cd-set with the best of the upcoming sets on audio cd and the rest of the sets on an mp3 cd. Stay tuned for more information!

A few things have happened worth reporting. The Live Supermix of Step Up is up on the IUMA site though you can get it direct from this site until I need more space. Kris Weston (aka Thrash from the Orb) says, "Christs huge girth! Your dj mixing is almost as bad as lx paterson." Be sure to order your copy full fidelity copy with artwork and stuff today! Just go to the "Stuff to Buy" page!

We've been getting repeated long listens from Italy so we've added an Italian language radio break to the Transmissions which continue most of the time.

IFPR has been confirmed performing an ambient set at the AmbientLive 2k3 Festival in Denver CO on Saturday, July 26th. The set will be an hour or so of lush synths, voices, noises, and environmental recordings. There will be a release to accompany this show as well as the possibility of a release of the show itself (sound quality willing). Alan Evil will be performing this set solo and is sharing a car out there with the one and only Sisk (the artist formerly known as Creature).

Alan Evil has once again taken the cleaver to someone else's song. Soon to be appearing on the White Powder Bubble ep from Sisk will be the IFPR Dubway mix. It's hip, it's got a funky beat, and you can bug out to it.

A few days ago I was sitting here at my desk, listening to some little section of quiet music over and over when suddenly this singing voice reaches me. You need to understand this neighborhood to understand the sound. Outside of the window, right in front of my desk, is an almost uninterrupted block and a half to a big old 7 story brick warehouse. There are really long distances in every direction to all of the buildings around here so the echoes are killer. So I'm sitting there and then I hear this voice, singing at the top of his lungs this older black man, dressed in a khaki jump suit with short sleeves, black belt, and black Beatle looking boots, is kind of high step marching as he pelts this song out. I almost killed myself getting the mic outside and set up and I got a pretty good take of it.

6-28-2003

The Approach of the Mysterious Voices has ended its brief sojourn on the world wide web and now rests in the hands of a few lucky people. One pressing has been made of fifteen numbered and signed copies and no more full editions will be created. It is still possible to beg copies of the album in mp3 format. We might even burn an audio disc for you if you're nice but the full artwork will not be reproduced except in an actual, full-blown release kind of thing.

Alan Evil has been struck by a desire to "return to his roots" as a musician and write a bunch of "regular" pop songs so the IFPR production rate may decline for a couple of months. Stock- holders appear to be relieved though trading was mixed. A remix of Sisk's "White Powder Bubbles" is under way and there is this sort of threatening possibility of more Approach style songs and/or remixes of the Approach songs in the near future.

There is a store near the studio that sells large bottles of mouthwash for $2. The bums have taken to drinking it around here and it appears to really fuck them up. Two guys split a bottle across the street a few weeks back and were stumbling and slurring their speech. Then one staggered (which is a bit mild of a term) away while the other remained, unable to speak or stand. Finally he fell asleep face down on the sidewalk and emptied his bladder. Then he had convulsions and an ambulance came for him. The moral of this story is don't drink that shit. It'll fuck you up.

04-17-2003

A little update to the last two updates. For now, the Approach of the Voices work is being presented on IUMA.com. The latest addition is "An Experience of Ascension." The songs are being re-ordered as the work proceeds. It is believed there is only one more to be created to finish the set.

Alan Evil has remixed yet another fantastic song by Highdropod called "Black Rain." As this might be pressed to vinyl this summer only a 64kbps version is available on IUMA.com. The mix is called "Black Rain (IFPR Sands of Time remix)." This features a loop from the power trio Sweet Monkey. Highdropod says, "This remix whoops a polar bears asshole!" We're not sure what this means but we're pretty sure it's a compliment.

The day before yesterday Alan Evil was looking down the street in front of the Institute and saw a shopping cart being pushed by a man. But after a moment he realized there was a hugely obese woman in a wheelchair pushing the shopping cart and pushing her was an extremely round and greasy man. They were putting on some steam but the traffic backed up behind them was not happy at all. They turned at the corner before the studio and headed for the Interstate...

3-19-2003

Oh gosh, where should I start? It's been a couple of month's since the last update and many events have occurred. There are several new songs available at http://ifpr.iuma.com. As of press times the latest pieces done in collaboration with the Secret Commonwealth are (in reverse chronological order): 1. Set It On Fire; 2. Voice I Remember; 3. Clearly; 4. Rain Under the Gutter; 5. Waller Around; 6. Eat Dirt; 7. That Green Door. All but "Set It On Fire" use only vocal sounds from interview recordings with members of the Secret Commonwealth. This effort is a part of "The Approach of the Mystery" process. Alan Evil has donned loose clothing and danced with the Secret Commonwealth in pursuit of these latest works. Links will be placed here as they become available.

An interesting bit was discovered in the "vaults" lately by Tornado G. On the back of a blank cassette tape were rehearsal recordings of songs by the band Sweet Monkey which consisted of Alan Evil, Jugdish, and Rick Cyanide. One is up at http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/Institute_for_Psychic_Reform/index-1.html. I'm sure more will follow and will remain up until the next e-mail.

By the way, when downloading from IUMA.com you will probably need to right click on the download link and select "save as." These recordings are all at 80% VBR which is roughly equivalent to 192kbps. What this means in English is that DSL will barely be able to stream the audio for these songs so you're best bet is to download them and then listen.

2-23-2003

Happy new year to all you who use the Western calendar. A few new pieces of photo art have been added to the site, namely a dead pigeon, dead cat, some trees, and some bum treasures. Some are on the second page of art and the rest are on the new third page of art.

There's a new picture of the studio in its new location. You can almost sense the beehive of activity pulsing through it.

The final mix of "Elysian Feels (IFPR PNG remix)" is in the mail and off Acidplanet.com. A new remix of a brand new (and spankingly excellent) song by Highdropod is now in the works as well as a remix of a Second Thought song. A new ambient album is in the works, some sounds will be familiar to long time fans and there are many excellent, new recordings as well. They will be mixed and layered into a single, sonic journey. Stay tuned.

Speaking of staying tuned, IFPR Radio has been getting intense, long listens from all over the world. In the category of people who have listened for more than two hours are citizens of Finland, Brasil, Argentina, Germany, France, Great Britain, Holland, Canada, and more. Isn't the internet cool?

1-3-2003

Yet another contest entry completed here in the IFPR studios. Alan Evil has remixed "Elysian Feels" by Future Sound of London, throwing in bits of "Papua New Guinea" for fun. It's sure to make you tap your feet and do standing backflips while perched on a wobbling pole. If you decide to do this we insist you video tape it. We're going to pull it off Acidplanet.com on Wednesday when we send it in as an entry in the contest. So get it while the getting's good.

We've made all songs on Mp3.com available for hi-fi download. In the event you don't already have all these songs we encourage you to give them a listen. And as always, buy a cd or two if you like what you hear. They're cheap, the artwork is nice, and it will help us to pay the bills. Better yet, send us $20 for the IFPR Magic Grab Bag and get a bunch of music and some neat crap!

Alan Evil insists you go look at his pictures at http://www.alanevil.homestead.com. Vain bastard.

12-15-2002

Goshes it's been a long time since the last real update. We're starting to get the new studio functional. Now we need more players to visit and grease the gears.

The studio has finished the remastering process for the Slugs archives. This has been a fun and maddening experience. The Slugs are at first listen the ultimate sneer, the top of punk, the peak of bratness... but after hearing a single song ten or fifteen times in a row slightly modified it is enough to cause one to fall to the floor, with froth issuing from one's mouth... at the same time as you reach back up to hit play again. So, anyway it's done. Let's hope we can pull together one or two marketable albums from these ten cassette's worth of stuff. I mean out of the five or six cds we could issue.

Alan Evil has been remix crazy again. He's presently working on three new remixes and has also posted the following on Acid Planet: Highdropod "Herbivores (IFPR Carnivorous remix)," Frou Frou "Breathe In (IFPR Is This It? remix)," and the fabulous straight up collaboration with Highdropod called "For the Blunted A.I." Don't miss out on downloading a copy of these while they're still there!

We have also made all songs available for download and streaming at Mp3.com. This will be in effect until we have made a hosting agreement (which should come right after the new year) at which point all these songs will be available only for purchase on cd. We plan on having only live mixes available on the web. Speaking of, right now the most recent shows by IFPR are probably playing on IFPR radio. Are you tuned in?*

Recently Alan Evil has been digging around in the vaults and digitizing ancient tapes. He is considering placing some of these on a new Mp3c.om site just for shits and giggles. These include many singer/songwriter songs from the early 90's. Some of these songs were written and recorded before the genesis of IFPR and include the bands Perpetual Feeder, amp, Wheelbarrow Slim, and Alan Evil sitting by himself at night with a bottle of whiskey, two guitars, and a microphone.

*IFPR radio is on the air whenever studio resources allow. Hopefully this will be rectified shortly and IFPR radio will become a 24/7 occurrence. Regardless, most of the time we are streaming recent live shows. Two or more times during the week we flip the switch and play live for you from our studio.

11-23-2002

We have a domain name!!! IFPR now owns www.psychicreform.com. Unfortunately, www.ifpr.com is controlled by some really greedy bastards and is priced completely out of our reach. But now we are much easier to find on the web.

Work has begun on a new album featuring Alan Evil and another founding member of IFPR, Rick Cyanide. This collaboration is taking place over the internet between Louisville KY and New Orleans LA. Final vocal recordings will be made at the IFPR Studios but work on the music will be done in the ether. This album is loosely based around the current condition of our society and will probably offend a lot of people. Alan and Rick both cringe at some of the content but refuse to change it because it is all too true.

Homestead sent me a copy of the old mailing list! That was kind of nice of them... except I'm really not sure what the format is. Our technician, Tornado G, will get right on it as soon as he recovers from the weeklong "experience" he was having with those home grown mushrooms.

The studio's new home is located across the street from a soup kitchen. This is amazingly entertaining and is sure to lead to some interesting recorded conversations to weave into the magical sounds.

07-30-02

Oh the horror! Homestead has changed the mailing lists and my old list is gone. *sigh* We will start over. Please sign up again if you are an IFPR veteran. To get on the IFPR mailing list please send an e-mail to ifpr@bellsouth.net with "add" in the subject field. We apologize for any inconvenience to you.

07-14-02

The IFPR studios have physically moved so other activities have been at a minimum. We can still be reached at po box 17016 Louisville KY 40217-0016.

The studio has also been in use remastering recordings of the (in)famous punk band the Slugs. This has sorely taxed the electrical system for the midwest and has caused a .05% dimming of lights throughout the area. But the results have been so marvelous no one has complained.

IFPR Radio has been doing very well. We have had several listeners who tuned in for over 11 hours and we've had long listens from all over the planet. Now if some of these people would just buy a record or two or maybe a nice mug...

07-10-02

A partial recording of the show from the sixth is available at http://ifpr.iuma.com. Unfortunately, our sound engineer, Tornado G, forgot to hit the record button and the opening 20 minutes of ambient sounds was missed. Though by no means a perfect show, this is a good example of IFPR's present direction. We will record the show tomorrow night as well. Because it will be a very long show some of it may be missed. We shall see.

See the flyers for the two Twice Told Coffee shop gigs.

It is now possible to wear IFPR merchandise!

More airplay in Nashville!

http://www.vanderbilt.edu/~jbrassil/mixdown/mm020202.html

Yep, gonna have to go visit them folks. There are two shows coming up in March at Twice Told Coffee Shop in Louisville. Wednesday March 6th we host their open mic night, performing from 8:00pm to 9:00pm and then we play all night (starting at 9) the following Monday. Twice Told is located at 1604 Bardstown Rd in Louisville, 502-456-0507.

02-21-02

http://www.vanderbilt.edu/~jbrassil/mixdown/mm020112.html A fanbase in Nashville, perhaps. Would be worth it to drive down and perform. "Deeper and Deeper" is still in the top 400 out of some unknown thousands of entries at http://madonna.acidplanet.com. It is truly staggering how many remixes of Madonna are being put up. Like the brand new remix of "Music" by none other than Alan Evil of IFPR.

It is the IFPR Crazymix. Best if you listen to the mp3 download though the streaming version is kind of psychedelic. Don't forget to leave a review and rate it 10 stars because it's just so good.

01-13-02

A quick observation: As of Jan 8, 2001, the remix of Madonna's "Deeper and Deeper" is actually getting listened to and has a perfect rating!!! And I forgot to mention the remarkable remix of Robert Miles that we have out there, sure to win us tons of big money.

01-08-02

http://www.vanderbilt.edu/~jbrassil/mixdown/mm011229.html

Institute for Psychic Reform makes its radio debut (well, debut for THIS decade) in Nashville, of all places on WRVU, 91.1 FM. To make it even stranger, he played at least two other artists I know from the web during the show. Perhaps we can convince WFPK here in Lousiville to play our music

Alan Evil has uploaded a remix of Madonna's "Deeper and Deeper" at http://madonna.acidplanet.com/Lounge/ArtistDetail.asp?ArtistID=1739. Please listen to it (best downloaded but the lo-fi streaming sounds pretty cool) and rate it.

Though threatened by the other members of IFPR, Alan Evil is persisting in his pursuit of remixes of famous people, including at least two more Madonna remixes. "They must all experience the agony of the Institute," howled an insane Mr. Evil as he backed into a corner, batting at the things flying at his eyes. Mr. Evil is responsible for the legendary remix of the "impossible to remix" Daft Punk song "One More Time" as well as the Dub remix of "Papua New Guinea" by Future Sounds of London. He keeps threatening to remix "Safety Dance."

12-30-01

Click here to see the flyer for the December 4th show.

The Tuesday (12-04-01) show went well considering the club was all but empty. There were about a dozen people at best. It sounded and looked great despite the lack of crowd. It's hard to play this kind of music without a bunch of people around. For a Tuesday night during finals with a completely unknown group playing music unlike what the club usually has we did well, they told me.

12-13-01

Our entry in the Robert Miles Remix contest has gone out, keep your fingers crossed. The cut was "Trance Shapes" from Organik. We could win $3G and be beloved by the world. I haven't put this mix up because of the contest. In the event we loose I'll put it up. If you're desperate to hear it, arrangements can be made.

Remixed "Nothing To Do" by Creature 367. A fabulous remix of a fabulous song. This is to be included on the single to be released soon.

Over the last few months the Institute has entered a new phase of preparation for the live shows. Though most aspects of this operation are confidential, part of it has involved the beginning of internet radio shows using ShoutCast. I am making a valid attempt to record these shows but the minidisk usually runs out right about the time the show gets really starts to kick. And I don't notice because I am immersed in the music. Maybe I should start using 2-hour DAT tapes. Where to post these huge audio files is a difficult problem. I'm waiting to hear back from IUMA to see if I need to chop up the shows into pieces (as I did with the songs on Live091801). We've been pretty good about signing on most weeknights before 8:00pm EST and keeping the show on until after 10:00 by replaying past shows and such.

Yet another Mp3.com album is out. The name of it is IFPR Live091801. It was recorded in the Institute for Psychic Reform studios with no overdubs. The sound quality is not perfect because our main recording input, the Lexicon Core2 PCI, is crapping out on us, much to the bewilderment of Lexicon. We have called in the voodoo priestess and the exorcist to no avail.

10-18-01

There has been a slight lag in productivity over the last month but it appears this has turned around. The entry for the Robert Miles remix competition ("Trance Shapes") is finally under way. A recent fragment for Getafixx called "Ghosthead" was also completed.

7-26-01

Work continues on the live show. It would appear that the music for the next album will be recorded as a live dj mix rather than as individual songs.

"Starting Fire (slight return)" and two halves of an unnamed song (U41) are now up on the mp3.com site for your listening pleasure. Please do not feed the bears.

The central component of the studio has been sent to the shop and is now being returned with no problems found (ouch $$). Unfortunately it may be the computer that is the problem. This lull in recording time has left plenty of time to develop the live show and add new samples to the rig. Perhaps it's a blessing in disquise.

IFPR newsletter from 06-01-01.

"Kid's Play" is coming along nicely. More tracks are coming. "Starting Fire" is going to be a lot of work. Adding more vox tonight. Redoing the organ part. Also guitar solo to come. Possibly an alternate instrument solo though the intent is to sound as "live rock band" as possible. Definitely must change drums.

5-9-01

One project with which you can help is reviews for individual songs. Please send reviews to ifpr@bellsouth.net. The more the better. Album reviews are also welcome as well as website reviews, show reviews and killer links to neat stuff. That's just for our own entertainment.

Anyone able to give me a lift down to New Orleans? And are you leaving in an hour or so? (see attached)

There are three new Institute for Psychic Reform songs up for your general pleasurement. They are "Starting Fire (slight return)," "U41A," and "U41B."

The web site is beginning to behave itself.

Oh, and to make the development of the IFPR home site easier, all songs uploaded to mp3.com are now available for listening.

That's it from the Institute. Have a good weekend.

Yours,

Alan Evil

Institute for Psychic Reform

They've been up for a week and tiny changes are still taking place in the two newest IFPR songs. "Kid's Play" has been tweaked significantly though no new parts have been added. The big smash hit "Starting Fire" has had more vocals and percussion added. And both songs have had even more done to them but have not been mixed, converted to mp3 and uploaded yet.

The Institute is looking for reviews of songs to post on their individual pages on the newly refurbished IFPR site. If you'd like to write anything about any song (or anything else Institute-ish) for the site, please e-mail it to ifprreviews@hotmail.com.

For great justice.

Please enjoy these two new pieces. They are still growing and changing but I thought I'd get some criticisms about them and suggestions for them now that they're where they are. Please enjoy them:

1. Kid's Play (temporary working title) [Mp3.com's system wouldn't let me name it exactly this for some reason]

2. Starting Fire

Please visit the Institute's home page. It has been completely redesigned and is now more beautiful to look at and easier to navigate.

You know what you doing. Move Zig!

I stumbled upon the Jive translater at http://magic.hurrah.com/~fireball/jive.cgi just now and decided to put this in:
